For whom is occupational health and safety management with ISO 45001?
Employee health and safety are relevant in every organization. All types of organizations, large or small, profit or non-profit, can benefit from applying ISO 45001. In smaller organizations with a limited number of hazards and risks in the area of occupational health and safety, the management system will be simple. The ISO 45001 standard sets out the framework; each organization determines its own implementation. The database of certificates shows that various types of organizations hold an ISO 45001 certificate.
Employees at the center in ISO 45001
In the ISO 45001 standard, the organization’s employees are central. Everything is aimed at creating a healthy and safe working environment. This is only possible when employees are also involved. Examples of involvement in the ISO 45001 standard are:
- Context analysis: insight into the needs and expectations of employees in particular.
- Participation and consultation: management is required to involve employees (at all levels) in both the development and implementation of the occupational health and safety policy, risk inventory and evaluation, and action plan.
- Communication: the organization must inform employees about the results of continuous improvement.
